Equipment Provided
A full set of Metal Detecting gear is provided for your day. Including metal detector, pin-pointer, shovel, trowel, finds bag and coin box. No need to have any of your own kit, its a try before you buy with full instruction. You are welcome to bring your own detector and learn how to use it.
Community
We pride ourselves on the quality of our community, both on the field and in our private club, which all experience day guests are welcome to join.
It's a safe space, friendly and supportive. We'll help with equipment purchase, permissions and find identification.

Metal Detecting is an eclectic marriage of mental agility, light physical exercise, a passion for history, outdoor wellbeing session and thrill of the hunt.

Metal Detecting is now a very popular hobby, with a vast choice of equipment, clubs, rallies and online content, fueled by the TV phenomenon "Detectorists".
We are the leading skills school in the UK for what is a technically complex hobby. We've seen many beginners struggling, asking for help in online forums, being told to watch YouTube or figure it out themselves.
At GVMD we want to give everyone a fully comprehensive experience of the hobby before having to buy any kit. If you get the bug like we did, you will have all the skills to hit the fields like a seasoned detectorist.

Location
The course is situated on 500 acres of farm land and woods, above the beautiful Gordano Valley in North Somerset, 10 miles from Bristol, in the UK.

We have a car park and facilities at Weston Lodge Shooting Ground just outside of Portishead, from where the group will explore many different types of environment, including pasture, ploughed (seasonal) and woodland. The views of the surrounding countryside and Bristol channel and Wales beyond are stunning.

There are thousands of years of history in and around the Gordano valley, waiting to be discovered, book now and join us for a fantastic day hunting for treasures.
About Me
My name is Daveran Baulch and I'm the founder and field guide for Gordano Valley Metal Detecting.
After over 25 years in the corporate world I was disconnected from the outside world, sedentary and in poor health. Discovering Metal Detecting as a hobby has transformed my life, improved my wellbeing and fitness and has led to this moment, setting up the business.

Very few skills schools exist nationally for what is a technically complex hobby. I've seen many struggling detectorists asking for help in online forums and on organised digs. I want to give everyone a fair shot at the hobby, so the experience days skills school was born.
